La mission du Centre

CIRCA art actuel est un centre d’artistes autogéré qui soutient l’expérimentation et l’innovation. Sa mission? Diffuser les œuvres d’artistes en art actuel, toutes générations confondues, qui placent l’objet sculptural au cœur de leur démarche. Le Centre soutient les projets qui s’inscrivent autant dans l’esprit d’une pratique traditionnelle de la sculpture que ceux qui développent des formes sculpturales et installatives hybrides, naissant du contact avec d’autres médiums comme le dessin, l’imprimé, la photographie, le numérique ou la peinture. Le tout témoigne d’une volonté affirmée de participer au soutien et au développement des pratiques sculpturales et installatives, dans un esprit d’ouverture et de renouvellement.

Les critères de représentativité extraits de la politique de programmation

Les expositions du CIRCA art actuel sont sélectionnées par le comité de programmation formé de membres actifs, de membres du conseil d’administration, de la directrice et d’un·e  membre invité·e. La programmation vise à représenter une variété de générations, de provenances et un nombre équitable d’artistes hommes et femmes (tout en considérant les identités de genres). Nous accordons une grande valeur aux différentes diversités et à l’autochtonie et nous encourageons les artistes et commissaires s’identifiant à ces communautés à soumettre un dossier. 

Les critères de sélection des dossiers sont les suivants : 

  • la pertinence du projet en regard des pratiques sculpturales et installatives
  • la singularité de la proposition artistique par rapport aux autres pratiques en art actuel
  • la variété des projets sélectionnés en fonction du type de pratique

Les cachets

Chaque artiste reçoit le cachet CARFAC en vigueur de l’année de l’exposition. 

Les commissaires reçoivent 1000 $ pour leur projet. Ils ou elles doivent investir les 2 galeries du CIRCA art actuel, et les artistes du projet reçoivent le cachet CARFAC selon le nombre d’artistes de l’exposition.

  • CV à jour
  • Texte de démarche (300 mots maximum) 
  • Texte de proposition de projet artistique (400 mots maximum) 
  • 15 images de travaux récents accompagnées de leur description 
  • Lien Vimeo pour les vidéos 

COMMISSAIRES

Merci d’inclure les documents ci-dessous EN UN SEUL PDF (aucun JPG accepté)

  • CV à jour du commissaire
  • CV des artistes
  • Texte de proposition de projet de commissariat 
  • Textes de démarche des artistes (300 mots chaque maximum)
  • 3 ou 4 images de travaux récents de chacun des artistes participants

Le comité se réserve le droit d’assigner chaque artiste à la galerie I ou à la galerie II. Cependant, n’hésitez pas à spécifier quelle galerie vous aimeriez investir ou si vous aimeriez investir les deux galeries. 

Rappel : chaque projet de commissariat devra investir les deux salles.

Call for submissions to artists and curators

CIRCA art actuel regular programming – 2026–2028

The Centre’s mission

CIRCA art actuel is an artist-run centre that supports experimentation and innovation. Its mission? To showcase the work of contemporary artists of all generations who place sculptural objects at the heart of their practice. The Centre supports projects that are in line with both traditional sculptural practice and those that develop hybrid sculptural and installation forms, arising from contact with other media such as drawing, printmaking, photography, digital media, and painting. All of this reflects a strong desire to participate in the support and development of sculptural and installation practices, in a spirit of openness and renewal.

Representativeness criteria extracted from the programming policy

CIRCA art actuel exhibitions are selected by a programming committee made up of active members, board members, the director, and a guest member. The programming aims to represent a variety of generations and backgrounds and to feature an equitable number of male and female artists (while taking gender identities into account). We place great value on diversity and Indigenous culture, and we encourage artists and curators who identify with these communities to submit their work. 

The selection criteria for applications are as follows: 

  • the relevance of the project to sculptural and installation practices
  • the uniqueness of the artistic proposal in relation to other practices in contemporary art
  • the variety of projects selected according to the type of practice

Fees

Each artist receives the CARFAC fee in effect for the year of the exhibition. 

Curators receive $1,000 for their project. They must invest in the two galleries of CIRCA art actuel, and the artists involved in the project receive the CARFAC fee based on the number of artists in the exhibition.

  • Up-to-date CV
  • Statement (300 words maximum)
  • Artistic project proposal (400 words maximum)
  • 15 images of recent work accompanied by descriptions
  • Vimeo link for videos

CURATORS

Please include the following documents in a SINGLE PDF file (no JPG accepted)

  • Curator’s up-to-date CV
  • Artists’ CVs
  • Curatorial project proposal text 
  • Artists’ statements (300 words maximum each)
  • 3 or 4 images of recent work by each participating artist

The committee reserves the right to assign each artist to Gallery I or Gallery II. However, please feel free to specify which gallery you would like to use or if you would like to use both galleries. 

Reminder: each curatorial project must occupy both rooms.
