Become a Member of CIRCA art actuel

As a self-managed artist-run center, CIRCA art actuel is an exhibition space managed by and for artists and cultural workers. Beyond its exhibition mandate, the center also promotes an artist-centered approach: “The Artist at the Center.” This means placing artists at the heart of its concerns, activities, and community.

In this regard, CIRCA is committed to its artist members by organizing networking events, studio visits, offering diverse expertise to support artists in their careers, and developing projects aimed at promoting artists beyond the gallery walls.

If the center is dynamic and its programming continues to grow, it is thanks to its members! Their involvement is vital to CIRCA art actuel and forms a vibrant artistic community.

By becoming a member of CIRCA art actuel, you support an organization dedicated to showcasing contemporary visual arts in sculpture and installation practices. You join a dynamic and engaged community, forging connections with local and national artistic scenes. Members of CIRCA art actuel are also encouraged to actively contribute to the development of the center and its associative life.

To become a member, simply apply by sending a CV and a brief letter of interest to circa@circa-art.com.

The board of directors is responsible for evaluating each application.

CIRCA art actuel offers four distinct membership categories designed for different profiles. These are listed below:

ARTIST MEMBER

Artist members meet the following criteria:

  • Be a professional artist specializing in contemporary art.
  • Have obtained or be in the process of obtaining a university degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in fine and / or media art.
  • Have an articulated and critical artistic approach in contemporary art.
  • Be recognized by their peers, e.g., by receiving a distinctive award in contemporary art, securing a grant, or exhibiting in professional spaces.

 

Membership Fee: $20/year

Privileges of Artist Members:

  • Voting rights at the Annual General Meeting.
  • Eligibility to run for the board of directors.
  • Participation in working committees.
  • Ability to consign publications for sale (related to their work) at no additional cost.
  • Visibility in the MEMBERS section of the CIRCA art actuel website.
  • Inclusion in the organization’s monthly newsletter shared with members and the community.
  • Access to reserve spaces for documenting their work (upon reservation and outside of setup, exhibition, and dismantling periods).
  • 10% discount for renting the POPOP gallery.
  • Access to the center’s library.
  • Eligibility to apply for the summer residency at the center (when no exhibition is scheduled).
  • Opportunity to apply for a one-month residency at L’atelier Silex.
  • Participation in annual fundraising exhibitions.
  • Access to off-site guided tours and visits to production spaces or other centers.
  • Access to the members’ bulletin board.
  • Access to the members’ Facebook group.
  • Support, advice, and discussions with the center’s team regarding their career, development, and projects.
  • Access to a list of services offered by members.

SUPPORTING MEMBER

Supporting members include artists not recognized as professionals, curators, gallery owners, art historians, art enthusiasts, and anyone wishing to support CIRCA art actuel’s development activities.

Membership Fee: $20/year

Privileges of Supporting Members:

  • Voting rights at the Annual General Meeting.
  • Eligibility to run for the board of directors.
  • Participation in working committees.
  • Visibility in the MEMBERS section of the CIRCA art actuel website.
  • Access to the center’s library.
  • Access to off-site guided tours and visits to production spaces or other centers.
  • Access to a list of services offered by members.

STUDENT MEMBER

Student members include anyone currently enrolled in pre-university or university-level arts programs who wishes to support CIRCA art actuel while taking their first steps in the cultural sector.

Membership Fee: $15/year

Privileges of Student Members:

  • Opportunity to join the Setup/Teardown Committee.
  • Access to the center’s library.
  • Access to off-site guided tours and visits to production spaces or other centers.
  • Access to a list of services offered by members.

PHILANTHROPIST MEMBER

Philanthropist members include individuals or organizations expressing an interest in the center or wishing to offer financial or technical support to CIRCA art actuel’s activities.

Membership Fee: $50/year

Privileges of Philanthropist Members:

  • Opportunity to join working committees.
  • Eligibility for a charitable receipt.
  • Access to the center’s library.
  • Visibility in the MEMBERS section of the CIRCA art actuel website.
