Jamesie, it’s true. Situated in the Nord-du-Québec region, Jamesie, also known as the Territory of James Bay, is inhabited by the Cree and the “Jamesiens.” It is one of the last untouched areas of the world. Jamesie is also a concept, a metaphor for our mental space. Our Northern Plan. Artistically alone in the studio. Open the door. Free. Live with the animals, the twisted, the excluded. Live with artists, savages. Personal and political, this interdisciplinary work offers a critical look at the art milieu and points out the recent struggles of First Nations. On going since 2011, Jamesie is a work in process: space, residence, destruction, reconstruction, performance, art is easy.

Invited Artists: Mingo L’indien and Alain Desrochers

Musical happenings and performative installations collide spontaneously in the clamorous universe that Geneviève & Matthieu have been creating since the end of the 90s. Inspired by art and life, the duo operates in an artistic cul-de-sac, constantly pushing the limits of the medium. Actively involved in the community, they are members of the artist-run centre, L’Écart, and directors of the Performative Art Biennale of Rouyn-Noranda. Jamesie was presented at OFFTA in Montreal in 2013 and at L’Oeil de Poisson in Québec City in 2014, La Maison Folie in Mons, Belgium and at the Festival Actoral in Marseille in 2015.

Geneviève & Matthieu wish to thank the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, the Conférence régionale des élus and the Canada Council for the Arts for their support.
