Arprim, centre d’essai en art imprimé, CIRCA art actuel and Galerie B-312 are happy to invite you to Gráfica abierta: Rutas expansivas en la gráfica Mexicana, a group exhibition curated by Santiago Pérez Garci, director of Mexico City’s Museo Nacional de la Estampa and organised in partnership with the National Institut of Fine Arts (Mexico). From October 27 to December 1, 2018, These artist-run centers of the Belgo Building will be showcasing works by Ernesto Alva, Omar Barquet, Demián Flores, Magali Lara, Ilán Lieberman, Laura Valencia Lozada, Nuria Montiel, CoRa and Carla Rippey. The official opening will be held on Saturday, October 27, starting at 3 p.m. A performance by Omar Barquet entitled Ghost variations / The shining Sequence (after Robert Schuman) (music credit: AKA ensemble) will take place during the opening.
To bring to light the revival of printmaking, the curator has chosen the field’s growing interdisciplinarity as central theme for the exhibition, uniting works that, each in their own way, transcend the limits of traditional models. A series of conferences will also offer original viewpoints on the issues and practices in contemporary printmaking in Mexico.
* Friday, October 26, at 6 p.m., Lysette Yoselevitz will give a presentation focused on the first part of the project. Santiago Pérez Garci will present the curatorial line of the exhibition at the Mexican Cultural Institute in Montreal, the Consulate General of Mexico’s exhibition space.
* Thursday, November 1, at 12:45 p.m., Ilán Lieberman and Omar Barquet will share the results of their research with the public at the Université du Québec à Montréal, in partnership with the ICI international cultural workers program.
In parallel to the exhibition, artists Perla Krauze and Boris Viskin will begin their residencies at Atelier Circulaire and L’imprimerie, centre d’artistes, both lasting from October 26 to November 15. The results of their research will be presented in a discussion with Perla Krauze on Wednesday, November 14, at 5 p.m. and with the two artists, on Thursday, November 15, at 6 p.m. at the Mexican Cultural Institute in Montreal.
